The Blue Mermaid Island Grill is turning Green!
The Blue Mermaid Island Grill is committed to continually evaluating our operations in order to employ more environmentally friendly methods of providing the best service to our guests.
We are an Environmental Partner in the New Hampshire Sustainable Lodging and Restaurant Program
We divert 90% of our waste from the landfill by:
-
recycling paper, cardboard, plastic, glass, and aluminum through the City of Portsmouth
-
composting all natural waste through Eco Movement who takes our waste to Bartlett Farms in Eliot, ME www.zerowastenow.com
-
recycling our fryer oil into Biodiesel
Other ways we are turning green:
-
using no phosphates in our cleaning products
-
having plans in place to replace existing applainces with Energy Star models
-
replacing all lighting with more energy efficient CFLs or LEDs
-
using brown paper towels (they don't use harmful dioxins)
-
only watering outside plants in the morning or evening
-
only offering water to our guests on a demand basis
-
having a Green Team in place that detect and repair leaky faucets and toilets while having a regular maintenance schedule of the facilities
-
Many, many, many more to come...
